Gorey Writers was set up in October 2006 by Bernie Walsh. We hope to attract people from all age groups and at all different stages of writing. We are here to encourage people to write and to feel that, as members of the group, we can depend on each other for help and encouragement. Contact us at goreywriters@gmail.com or on Facebook

Gorey Library Nearly Open
Good News! Gorey Library is nearly open for business. We are trying to contact the powers-that-be to establish if their offer of a meeting room still stands.
In the meantime, here is a poem by Carol Boland
In the meantime, here is a poem by Carol Boland
The Secret
leave lashes on your back
or smack like the crack of kindling
a gunshot on a Sunday afternoon.
Does it pierce your skin
sting like a nettle
or can you smudge it better
with a dock weed.
And when your tongue is tied
to the struts of your mouth
does it smother the flame
can you snuff it out
or does it leave an emptiness
a hole in your chest
from a spear thrown off kilter.
And in the dreaming time
does it sleep behind your eye lid
deflecting the veiled light
like a cornea.

Member published in Enniscorthy Echo

Well done, Bernie!
Circle of Life
Birth Happens
Innocence Prevails
Walk the circumference of life
Jump on the merry go round
Stop, choose the path
Bitterness bites, engulfs the being
Hinders the thoughts, the minds
Enter the deep dark tunnel
Scramble to find the bright light
Where is the finish line?
The satisfaction
The final destination
Desperation, dizziness, bitter sweet revenge
Is it too late to take the merry go round again?
